Rufus is a freeware tool for formatting USB disks so that they may be used to install alternative operating systems to run a live distribution of Linux. It also supports the creation of a MS-DOS (or other flavor of DOS) boot disk.

Supports Partition Image booting - make image files of any existing, bootable single-partition FAT32 or NTFS USB stick and add the files to E2B (e.g. Add images of USB Flash drives made with YUMI, XBOOT, SARDU, WinSetupFromUSB, LiveUSB Creator, Rufus, USB Universal Installer, MSDaRT, Windows AIO installers, HP Utilities, etc.). The menus here in Rufus are similar to those which may be found in Microsoft's own Windows formatting wizard. Rufus allows you to select the type of format (NTFS, FAT32, FAT, exFAT). It can also do a check for errors on your media and perform an optional 'Quick Foramt' just like Windows' native format tool.

Another interesting feature here is the ability to create a FreeDOS boot-able disk which allows for the installation of Windows ME, Windows 98 and even Windows 95.

Lastly, in order to use this tool, the BIOS on the system which you would like to use it must be able to boot from a USB device or an external drive.

Rufus is software which can create bootable disks.

The HPE USB Key Utility is a Windows application that will allow the user to copy the ISO and CD contents to a USB memory key using SmartStart CD, Firmware Maintenance CD, Smart Update Firmware DVD, Intelligent Provisioning Recovery DVD, Service Pack for ProLiants or other supported products. Users may then run the ISO and CD applications from a USB key.

Prerequisites:

  • HP SmartStart CD version 7.5x and greater.
  • HP Firmware Maintenance CD version 7.5x and greater.
  • HP Smart Update Firmware DVD version 9.00 and greater.

And:

  • Minimum 1GB USB 2.0 flash drive (maximum size is 32GB).

After successful installation of the HPE USB Key Utility, the USB flash drive can be used on supported ProLiant servers.

Installation:

From that drive and directory, execute the downloaded file.

Description
